Description

Red, fine to medium-grained sandstone from the Lower Buntsandstein formation near Eberbach/Baden and Hebstahl/Hesse.

Mineralogical composition

Quartz (55%), rock fragments (22%), alkali feldspar (22%) and accessory minerals (1%)

Structure

Red, brown-speckled, fine to medium-grained sandstone with occasional white mottling and fine pores; well-graded texture characterised by parallel and cross-bedding. Occasional dark red inclusions.

Petrographic identification:

Red, occasionally white-mottled, feldspathic sandstone with rock fragments and ferritic, siliceous cementation.
