New Construction Stone Demonstrator
The Earls Court Development site in London is providing the location for the Stone Demonstrator. As a three-storey pilot project, it illustrates on a 1:1 scale the diverse applications of natural stone in multi-storey residential construction and convincingly demonstrates how natural stone can be used to achieve the transition to a more sustainable construction industry. The installation was commissioned by the Future Observatory - the Design Museum´s national research programme for the Green Transition - and designed by Groupwork and engineered by WebbYates and Arup.
For this project, we have produced and supplied two elements of our timber-stone-composite floorplates with a span of 6.50 metres. These consists of 6cm thick stone slabs of Epprechtstein Granit, timber beams and the patented BiFri composite anchors.
With the development of the timber-stone-composite floorplate, we are opening a new chapter in hybrid and circular construction in collaboration with Friedrich Verbundsysteme GmbH. The timber-stone-composite floorplate forms the load-bearing structure of the floor system and generally does not represent the finished visible surface. All common floor constructions can be applied on top of this load-bearing structure.
